Can anyone tell me the REAL pro's and cons involved in getting hair extensions please?

I would like to hear from anyone who has actually used them, rather than well meaning theorists please.

I thank you all in advance for taking the time to help me

Can anyone tell me the REAL pro's and cons involved in getting hair extensions please?

I had extensions a few years ago because too much bleach, straightening and swimming caused my natural hair to break off very short (up to my eyeline from the front to behind my ears)

I looked after my hair a lot better and the extensions helped me to look normal agian whilst my hair was growing. I'm about to have some put in again as I want long hair and am not patient enought to wait for it to grow.

PROS-

If you look after you rhair extensions then they are a great way to add length, volume or highlights to your hair

they are ideal for a quick change but remember they aren't permenant (around 3 months)

CONS-

you do need to look after them and they can a little bit of getting used to for some people. No swimming, no tugging at them.

Cost. Good hair extensions are pricey. European hair is the best quality and is worth investing in. Remember you will also need to invest in decent products- shampoo, conditioner, serum and thermal protection spray (if you use straighteners) and go back to the salon for maintenance.

I work in an industry where a lot of girls have hair extensions and I have heard a lot of them complain that hair extensions ruined their hair. I never believe this as I had my extensions in order to help my hair and it worked (there's even specialists who offer extensions for people with alopecia, such as- http://www.hairextensions.co.uk/testimon... )

People who don't look after their hair extensions will end up causing a lot of damage so if you're not prepared to commit the time and money, don't do it!

After you have them taken out your hair will feel thinner. This is because you removed the extra hair, not necessarily because you have lost your own hair.

Mkae sure you go to a reputable salon. Racoon are one of the best companies I know of and they have salons all over the country.

Good luck with whatever you decide!

Hiya,

I had them in last year, they look FANTASTIC! They look completely natural, no-one (unless they know you) would know it wasn't your hair - not even when they run their fingers through it! You wash and style your hair as you do now, no special treatment, although I tended to go easy on it, just in case!

They lasted about 3 months but at the price they are you want them to last longer.

Apart from not lasting long enough, the only other downside was when I had them removed I had to have about an inch cut from the bottom of my hair, but I think she was a bit over-zelous!

Good Luck with it, you'll look great if you go for it! :-)

at times it can look really nice, you know, real. bet if the stylist put it in wrong it can look really bad. my sister had them in and the person who did it messed it up. when my sister came to take it out, her hair was all cut and short. she never did it again.

hair extensions look great for the first month or so and then to keep them looking good you have to keep going to the salon which is more expense and then when you can,t afford them anymore you have to pay to get them took out then you have to have your hair cut because of the damage it,s done just look at posh becks do you really think after having extensions all that time she,d just cut it all off i don,t think so
