To get your hair like Dani's you will need short choppy layers. Since they are better for teasing. You could probably tease first then clip in the extensions. You might have to go back and fix parts of your hair so you won't be able to see where you clipped the extensions in though.

you have to tease the top part of your hair the whole way around your head and then straighten the longer bottom bits

Use mousse!!!! That will help with volume and teasing. Remember, though, that it seems this model has had her hair cut to have much longer layers on the bottom than on the top, so you'd have to have your hair cut to get like this.

As for putting stripes in front, maybe just find some really bright clips or barrettes to put in front, as dyeing your hair is a little permanent. It's much cuter to have a splash of color through a barrette (which you can change to match your outfit) rather than through a whole strip of hair.

You actually can buy the striped and leopard print clip-in extensions here, that way you don't have to dye your own hair. Plus, its really hard to do if you don't have extensions.
