How much do hair pro extensions cost?

The salon kind, not the beauty shop stuff.

Real and fauz hair prices?

It depends on what you are looking for. There are many different methods of extensions. Glue in, tape in, sewn in on corn rowed tracks, and cold-fusion and thermal ketatin protein fusion. There is a wide range in how long they'll last, the quality of hair, and hence the price.

I am a Great Lengths certified extensionist. Great Lengths is the "cadillac" of hair extensions. The quality of the hair is superior and the bonds are a keratin protein and are applied either with cold fusion or thermal fusion. They are virtually undetactable, and do not damage the hair like some of the other methods can do. They last anywhere from 4-6 months, depending on how fast your hair grows and what your tolerance level is with growing hair! The price range starts at $6.00 a strand which translates into anywhere from

$1000 - 1500 average (in my area in SD). The price is determined on how much hair you'll need and how long you want it. If you're wanting it REALLY long, you could be looking upwards of $2000 - 4000 depending on where you live. Crazy huh? In my neck of the woods, people don't do a lot of extensions, it's pretty new and just catchin on (so far as I know, I'm only 1 of 2 people in my whole state that offer this system!) and people FREAK when I quote them the bottom range price, where as in CA or some of those bigger states, they'd be knockin down the door to get them at that price. If you check out their website, you can get a lot of good information that tells you what to look for and the difference between the different kinds of human hair. I'd stay away from sythetic. It starts looking nasty after about a week.

I would recommend you buy some hair off the internet (bohyme hair is excellent quality and not too expensive) buy some microlinks (type of bond which you thread onto your hair and the extension hair and then crush with a pair of pliers-sounds nasty but its really kind to your natural hair) and get a friend to put them in for you.

Like the above said, great lengths are fricking expensive and they only last 3-6 months. I went to a salon in my country and had balmain extensions put in and they were horrible so it goes to show not all salons are going to give you good extensions.

Go to www.hairboutique.com and look for the forum. There is an extensions section which has quite a few very knowledgable people (some work at salons, others do just extensions and the rest just love doing their own hair extensions).

If you bought the supplies off the net and did it yourself with a friend you would get salon quality without the huge pricetag. For 1/2 pound of hair 18" long you would be looking at about $280 pre tipped, for the microlinks its $20 for 250 (enough for a head).

Faux hair is good for funky colours, but dont bother with it for proper natural looking extensions. It is horrible after the first few washes. Human hair all the way!
