Should I press or straighten my hair b4 getting extensions?

I have natural, Black hair and whenever I get extensions the straight, synthetic hair doesn't always hold my naturally textured hair; the end result is tight cornrows with a little halo of fuzz.

I am getting individuals now and am thinking that I will be able to keep them nice longer if I don't start out fuzzy as usual. I'm thinking that hot combing/pressing or flat ironing my hair will help with that issue. But, I'm worried about breakage from the stress of braiding. Plus I have never pressed or flat ironed my hair myself b4 and have not had it pressed since I was 10!

Any ideas?

Thanks

I have natural hair and I don't think you need to press it first. I think blowing your air out really well and moisturizing before you go should be sufficient. I would do it the day of. Also, make sure that you are tying your hair down at night, not doing so can cause the frizzies. Also, I use elast qp glaze to smooth down frizzies on my braids.

you should give it a nice press first.

It probably is best for you to straighten the hair first; however, if your hair is uneven in places (we all have this) you might still experience a slight halo effect. Before straightening, wash hair with a mild and moisturizing shampoo like Cream of Nature and follow with a deep conditioner such as Pantene--these are the products that I used when I had a natural. Follow with a leave-in conditioner that refortifies the hair and doubles as a detangular (Keri Care, Design, etc). Blow-dry using a pick or brush to smooth the shaft. Once dry, apply a serum like Paul Mitchell (the best) and flat-iron. I like the Chi flat-iron. It was the only one that could straighten my hair. Make sure that you mositurize your scalp daily or weekly with a light oil that does not contain mineral oil or petroleum; these can clog the hair folicle, thus leading to breakage and hair loss. A daily scalp massage is essential as well. You should condition and massage your scalp before the braiding to stimulate blood flow. These were the steps that I followed, and I was pleased with the results. Good luck.
