hair extensions rarely look good.. and especially not with short hair.. cause it looks really really obvious that you have them where theres not enough layers..

hair extensions should only be used in hair that has lots of layers.. this disguises the fact that theyre actually there..

however, it could work, as long as the extensions aren't loads longer than your real hair.. although i wouldnt risk it.. good quality extensions can be pricey.. and the cheap ones just look horrible..

if i were you, i'd just wait for your hair to grow.. or, if you dont like it the way it is now, you could ask your hairdresser for some different style ideas.. good luck!

Just start choppin' for the haircut, not hard to do. Then put in highlights and cover with as many different shades of manic panic dye as you can find. Now to style just spray every which way with a whole can of hairspray.

Last Saturday I decided for the first time to have extensions added to my hair. I was so excited and I really trusted my hair dresser. She showed me some colors and she told me she believed me such color matched my original hair color and I trusted iher opinion .We made an appointment the following week and the whole experience was a disaster. I paid $500 dollars and not only did the extensions looked really bad but when she realized that the hair did not match my original color she convinced me to die my hair like the higlights on the extension but my hair turned a different color. I began to cry immediately. Now it looks like a rainbow. It is disgusting. I went back to ask for my money back. and they told me I will not get "one penny" They wanted to redy my hair but my hair is no condition to be retouched and I cannot trust them. All I want it was my money back. I am sad and want to sue them and they said to go ahead and intimidated "Because we know the law" said the owner. Help

I would have called the cops just to have a report...just take photos and file you suit asap...Also file a complaint with your states cosmetology board NOW. Did you actually see her license? Did you pay in cash?

Winning a hair suit is not impossible, just make sure you follow through. The salon should also have insurance as hair does not always "just grow back". Serious skin and scalp damage can occur if a stylist does not use chemicals or techniques correctly. Most states require at least some chemistry.

Nice style, but its a lot of work the upkeep of extensions, has she been blond before? if not drastic steps to go for something she might not like. Because the hair will need to be lightend to match the hair colour required, not only will she have the upkeep of extension also the root area. lot of work?? if she does go ahead go to salon make sure its a reputable one.

Bleaching hair is very damaging so I would look at highlights and going blonde gradually (I realise this is a difficult process for those who WANT IT NOW but it would be worth the wait - I promise!). The key for having extensions not damage your hair is to not keep it in long. 1 month is the most. One that works is cornrows. They damage the least. One that I get that does wonders is getting weave sewn in. I get my hair braided in cornrows and then a weave sewn in. I have no problems and my hair grows with it in. And you can leave a sewn in weave for up to 6 weeks if u take care of it and wash it correctly.

If you have caucasian hair, i dont think braids would be the best solution (though it is with african american hair). Though costly (depending on your area) and time consuming, your best bet may be to go to the salon and let them do a process where your hair is threaded through a small plastic tube that has hair attached to it. this gives a more natural look than having tracks of hair extentions.

curling it would be cute. I curled mine for my 8th grade promotion. A lot of girls used some curls without over doing it and it looked really good. I think you could always try putting it back in a clip if the curls don't work. try using hot rollers.. those tend to hold curl better than a curling iron! Congrats

I'm in that transition also, the best thing to do to avoid the urge to do something drastic is always put it up somehow, ponytail, bun, whatever. If it's up off your neck you're less likely to be bothered by it and before you know it ,it's gotten to the length you want

I really depends on how you plan on installing the extensions.

The shortest your hair can be to glue (use liquid GOLD bond) in extensions is about 1/2-1" but you have to be very careful not to have the weft show...these can last from a few hours to up to a week. With Lquid Gold you can also do indivdual bonding which is meant for hair that's at least 4" long. To remove use the Liqud Gold bond remover...this is the one of the easiest ways to do extensions.

For clip-ins your hair should be be from 3-5" this is the simplest installation/removal, part hair and clip in...un clip and slide out.. You cannot swim or wash your hair with these in.

For microlinks/linkies, you hair should be at least 3" for the wefted kind and at lest 5" for the induvidual kind. You thread your hair through the linkie and then clamp with pliers...to remove, you open the link with and opening tool and slid of your hair. These last up to 6 months with a touch up about every 2 months depending on how fast your hair grows.

For fusion/keratin bond, your hair has to be at least 5" long. You're basically fusing extension hair to your hair using a hot adhesive. It takes at least 3 hours to do a whole head but it can last from 3-6 months and usually requires acetone to break down the bond.

There's also ways of sewing in extensions which ususally requires the natural hair to be cornrowed as the base and the a net is sewn over that and the wefted hair is sewn over that. Needs to be touched up as hair grows.

Well if you want to keep the natural look I say go for the braids. I braid my hair all the time, not extension braids but I think mostly all types of braids look nice if they're done right. With dreds, you might not like them on yourself after you get them so I wouldn't recommend them. Perm and color could be really nice if you don't mind putting chemicals in your hair. It's fine to experiment with different styles. And if you try the other styles and don't like them, a short afro is always nice :)

Many people look CUTE with a short Afro! How about a "wet curl" look? Maybe a marcel wave? Black people are SO lucky to have a versatile hair texture that lends itself so well to dramatic and "shapely" styles. I'm serious. I'm a white lady with wavy hair that goes all frizzy in dry weather and all kinky in humid weather. Here in my neck of the woods (Texas), there's no real in-between. Sometimes I get so jealous of black people who always seem to have control, no matter the weather. You're lucky, girl! No jokes here!

Why don't you try microbraids? (with extensions, of course) If you keep your hair moisturized, they should stay in good condition for weeks, at least. My roommate has very short hair (African-American) and every couple of months I braid her hair in tiny microbraids with the extensions you can get at Sally's.. try using two different colors of hair, like a dark blonde and a darker brown.

OOooohhh, I like pretty clips with glitter and sparkles. There are so many pretty hair clips now!! Butterflies and flowers, especially. They look GREAT in shorter hairstyles. You can make some yourself. Going to an arts supply store, and buying pretty fake flowers, hot gluing them to cheap metal hairclips,and you have made a beautiful hair accessory. Fingerwaves are also very nice, last about a week, and don't stress your hair too much. Twists take forever, but look nice, also. recently got highlights and my hair is a bit two toned. very dark brown [close to black]/brown/blonde thats how it looks right now. i wanted to get some euronext clip on extensions from sallys beauty co. but i dont know if it will match. i was thinking of either getting light brown, or caramel if thats too light then i'd just get dark brown. my question is, would it me really bad if the extensions didnt match my hair color perfectly? wouldn't it just blend in?

Those are crappy quality and after one washing will look horrible. Save your money.

I buy my own remy hair for about $170 for 1/4 lb and make my own. They last over a year and I wear them a lot. I tried the convenient less expensive ones and ended up spending more money in the long run to replace. You do not want people to know youa re wearing extensions, so go for the better quality.

By virgin remy hair- that is unprocessed with the cuticle intact. You can get it in a million colors . I have even colored it myself as I have changed my own color from blonde to chocolate brown.

As for color, my hair is slightly darker than my extensions, but ti looks just fine. My own hair is as long as my extensions so it does not really matter. You do want a close match though, but for the underneath track, you can go darker probably without much problem.

um, don't bother listening to the other girl that answered. i have been using euronext clip on extensions for a year, and i love them. i've tried a bunch of different colors. no matter what color i dye my hair, they always seem to match perfectly. like seriously there is always a shade that will match my hair.

no one ever knows i'm wearing extensions, and i even got my friend turned on to them. she loved them so much on me, she bought her own.

since i can't see your hair, it's hard to say whether or not they would blend. especially since you have so many colors in it. are they blended well and natural looking, or thicker and more of a bold look? if the highlights are thin and look pretty natural, i'd be willing to be you could find a color to match.

another thing you can do is dye the extensions to match. i've dyed the dark AND light ones. since it's human hair, it's not any different from dyeing your own hair. what i always find, is if you have highlights or more than one color in your hair, it doesn't even need to match perfectly to look natural. just make sure the ends match. for example, at one point i had like 3 inches of dark hair, where my roots were growing out, and then a lighter honey brown where i had dyed it. so i had my extensions a honey brown color, and it looked totally natural.

they look great, and mine stay in such great condition, and i straighten mine, curl and dye them, and plus i don't even shampoo them every few days like you're supposed to. i do that once a month, if ever.

Now, believe it or not, the girl in the photobucket picture has extensions in, more than likely. A nice easy way to add highlights without touching your own hair. You can buy bright blonde human hair extensions (Sally's has cheap human hair tracks). Dye them with a pink (if using semi-permanent pink, apply heat with a blow-dryer for at least 10 minutes so the color stays vibrant longer), and blow dry the hair straight, then clip them in.

Well if you want to keep the natural look I say go for the braids. I braid my hair all the time, not extension braids but I think mostly all types of braids look nice if they're done right. With dreds, you might not like them on yourself after you get them so I wouldn't recommend them. Perm and color could be really nice if you don't mind putting chemicals in your hair. It's fine to experiment with different styles. And if you try the other styles and don't like them, a short afro is always nice :)

My roommate has very short hair (African-American) and every couple of months I braid her hair in tiny microbraids with the extensions you can get at Sally's.. try using two different colors of hair, like a dark blonde and a darker brown.

OOooohhh, I like pretty clips with glitter and sparkles. There are so many pretty hair clips now!! Butterflies and flowers, especially. They look GREAT in shorter hairstyles. You can make some yourself. Going to an arts supply store, and buying pretty fake flowers, hot gluing them to cheap metal hairclips,and you have made a beautiful hair accessory. Fingerwaves are also very nice, last about a week, and don't stress your hair too much. Twists take forever, but look nice, also. Gel the sides down and do some cute spikes at the top, that is a very cute style. Good Luck, I hope you find some useful suggestions!!

I really depends on how you plan on installing the extensions.

The shortest your hair can be to glue (use liquid GOLD bond) in extensions is about 1/2-1" but you have to be very careful not to have the weft show...these can last from a few hours to up to a week. With Lquid Gold you can also do indivdual bonding which is meant for hair that's at least 4" long. To remove use the Liqud Gold bond remover...this is the one of the easiest ways to do extensions.

For clip-ins your hair should be be from 3-5" this is the simplest installation/removal, part hair and clip in...un clip and slide out.. You cannot swim or wash your hair with these in.

For microlinks/linkies, you hair should be at least 3" for the wefted kind and at lest 5" for the induvidual kind. You thread your hair through the linkie and then clamp with pliers...to remove, you open the link with and opening tool and slid of your hair. These last up to 6 months with a touch up about every 2 months depending on how fast your hair grows.

For fusion/keratin bond, your hair has to be at least 5" long. You're basically fusing extension hair to your hair using a hot adhesive. It takes at least 3 hours to do a whole head but it can last from 3-6 months and usually requires acetone to break down the bond.

There's also ways of sewing in extensions which ususally requires the natural hair to be cornrowed as the base and the a net is sewn over that and the wefted hair is sewn over that. Needs to be touched up as hair grows.

first you need to curl your hair... for this look in particular i would suggest instead of using a curling iron like normal to garb a section of hair and wrap the hair around the barrel (not clamping it in)... then once its all curled take the front section of your hair (leaving the bangs if you want in which case you would straighten them) and divide it into small sections and twist hair back and secure with bobby pin... hope this helps a little... good luck...

Well I had these in my hair about a year ago, and if your hair is thick then there should'nt be a problem but whatever you do...do not keep them in for longer then 2 months if your a white girl cause our hair is much finer. The weight of those things in time, will brake the hair at the root...not so noticeable wile the extention is still in. Beware when you get them taken out all the hair that has been broken at the root will fall out and you will see that your once thick and beautiful hair has become thin with short little broken broken bits.... and the most noticable spot is near the roots where your natural part is.... so yeah do it its an experence you'll never forget! Remember its all good and pretty at the time but get rid of them about 2 months after you put them in. Or like me lose a hell of a lot of hair and have a hard time growing it out to even again.....PS. take alot of pics cause it will be shockingly beauitful.... oh... i don't think that perm that you got will effect them or the quality of the extention...the higher price you pay for them doesn't nessecarily meen a better job. look into the past work that, that hair dresser has done ;) but i paid $325 canadian and I got a type called (micro-braids) about 500 braids on my head and about 36 hours over a three day peiod ....have fun

The point where the natural and relaxed hair meets is very weak so if you chose to not cut it off, be prepared for some breakage. Wearing extensions and braids are a very good transition style. Remember to keep your hair conditioned. As for products, use whatever works best for you. I use Pantene Pro-V Relaxed and Natural shampoo and conditioner. You should sew in a weave. You get cornrows in the back or your hair or on the sides and you buy some weave tracks that are the same color as your hair. Make sure the braids are tight. You could prob get away with washing your hair every 2-3 days. Basically you sew the tracks into the braids. When your all done, your real hair will cover up the extensions. It involvs no glue. If you find it too hard, maybe you should go to the salon for the first time. One of my roomates (white) fuses weave to her hair and her hair is soooo thinned out, so your smart by not doing any kind of glueing or fusing.

recently got highlights and my hair is a bit two toned. very dark brown [close to black]/brown/blonde thats how it looks right now. i wanted to get some euronext clip on extensions from sallys beauty co. but i dont know if it will match. i was thinking of either getting light brown, or caramel if thats too light then i'd just get dark brown. my question is, would it me really bad if the extensions didnt match my hair color perfectly? wouldn't it just blend in?

I buy my own remy hair for about $170 for 1/4 lb and make my own. They last over a year and I wear them a lot. I tried the convenient less expensive ones and ended up spending more money in the long run to replace. You do not want people to know youa re wearing extensions, so go for the better quality.

By virgin remy hair- that is unprocessed with the cuticle intact. You can get it in a million colors . I have even colored it myself as I have changed my own color from blonde to chocolate brown.

As for color, my hair is slightly darker than my extensions, but ti looks just fine. My own hair is as long as my extensions so it does not really matter. You do want a close match though, but for the underneath track, you can go darker probably without much problem.

um, don't bother listening to the other girl that answered. i have been using euronext clip on extensions for a year, and i love them. i've tried a bunch of different colors. no matter what color i dye my hair, they always seem to match perfectly. like seriously there is always a shade that will match my hair.

no one ever knows i'm wearing extensions, and i even got my friend turned on to them. she loved them so much on me, she bought her own.

since i can't see your hair, it's hard to say whether or not they would blend. especially since you have so many colors in it. are they blended well and natural looking, or thicker and more of a bold look? if the highlights are thin and look pretty natural, i'd be willing to be you could find a color to match.

another thing you can do is dye the extensions to match. i've dyed the dark AND light ones. since it's human hair, it's not any different from dyeing your own hair. what i always find, is if you have highlights or more than one color in your hair, it doesn't even need to match perfectly to look natural. just make sure the ends match. for example, at one point i had like 3 inches of dark hair, where my roots were growing out, and then a lighter honey brown where i had dyed it. so i had my extensions a honey brown color, and it looked totally natural.

they look great, and mine stay in such great condition, and i straighten mine, curl and dye them, and plus i don't even shampoo them every few days like you're supposed to. i do that once a month, if ever.

The point where the natural and relaxed hair meets is very weak so if you chose to not cut it off, be prepared for some breakage. Wearing extensions and braids are a very good transition style. hair extensions rarely look good.. and especially not with short hair.. cause it looks really really obvious that you have them where theres not enough layers..

hair extensions should only be used in hair that has lots of layers.. this disguises the fact that theyre actually there..

you should try long blonde extensions with green contacts or they have light blue contacts that are gorgeous on any blonde, but then again, light brown hair would look good with all those combos.

One that I get that does wonders is getting weave sewn in. I get my hair braided in cornrows and then a weave sewn in. I have no problems and my hair grows with it in. And you can leave a sewn in weave for up to 6 weeks if u take care of it and wash it correctly.

If you have caucasian hair, i dont think braids would be the best solution (though it is with african american hair). Though costly (depending on your area) and time consuming, your best bet may be to go to the salon and let them do a process where your hair is threaded through a small plastic tube that has hair attached to it. this gives a more natural look than having tracks of hair extentions.

I'm in that transition also, the best thing to do to avoid the urge to do something drastic is always put it up somehow, ponytail, bun, whatever. If it's up off your neck you're less likely to be bothered by it and before you know it ,it's gotten to the length you want

The braids you want are called micro braids in the south and individual braids on the westcoast depending on where you live. In order to achieve that hair style you will need yaki human hair and its about 25 dollars a bag. Weave any cheaper then that will not turn out as good and the hairstyle will not last as long. When you buy the cheap kind you get what you pay for. If your not planning on getting you hair braided all the way to the ends and want to leave it loose like the girls in the picture get a yaki wavy human hair with the little curl made into it already at the bottom. Also you might want to get a product called braid creme. Its got a male and female on front and its in a white jar like container. That will help keep your real hair from sticking out of the braids and maintain that fresh look. Also get some oil sheen and keep your scalp and the ends of the hair moisturized so you scalp wont itch and your hair wont knot up at the ends. You can get all these products at local chinese stores that sells weave. You can probably ask around or if you see someone with nice braids ask them who did theres and get phone numbers and prices. Down here people just want a few extra dollars so theyll do that style for like 60 bucks however if i went to a shop and got it done theyll charge anywhere from 100 to 175 dollars depending on how long it takes them. Im gonna keep it real with you a style like that is not worth more then 85 dollars but depending on how you maintain it it can last up to 2 months. I like the 3rd style the best with the curl at the end because you can take the style its already in and make other styles such as fishbones and mini french rolls all over.Good luck with whatever you decide!!!!!

Hair Length for Clip In Extensions?

I am going from black to blonde hair and so my hair is very orange-ish right now :) Anyways, I had a lot of roots, I had stopped dying my hair in hopes it would be easier to go blonde, and so the ends of my hair are really dead.

because of the dead ends, my hair is constantly in tangles. I was thinking about just going and getting all the dead ends cut off, that way I could just get it over with and be blonde or make the transition quicker. But my question is, how long should your hair typically be in order to wear clip in extensions comfortablly? I decided to stop getting weave'd and glue in extensions, the cost and time I just don't have anymore, so I am sticking with clip ins. I just don't want to have my hair cut so short that I look fatter than I already am plus my extensions are showing and stuff.

It really depends where you go. Real hair will be more expensive but you can style it with products and heat. Synthetics are cheaper but you are limited to how you can style it - you can't use any heat at all because most are plastic and will melt!

Well, you look to have very straight hair, so growing it out shouldn't take that long. It averages 1/2 inch per month. So in 1/2 year you'll have it 3 inches longer, which is pretty long.

I would say synthetic extensions, if you do decide to get them, would be fine for your hair. It doesn't look like you need to curl them or anything, and synthetic are usually stick straight, which will go with you hair nicely. I'd go to Sally Beauty and see what they've got!

Your hair is beautiful. Don't get synthetic hair. It's not good hair at all and it's does not look natural. It's used more for braiding....not weaving. The human hair is natural and will blend well with your hair. It's easy to take care of and will last longer. It should cost around $150 to get it done. I have been wearing extensions for years and it's worth every penny.

although people say that your hair wont grow past a certain length each month... I dont believe that to be true from actual expierence.

Hair is reflective of diet.... what does your diet look like? Do you get enough water and protein? Enough fruits and vegetables?

I think that is the secret. When I eat more vegetables my hair grows faster. And when I drink more water my hair seems more manageable... not so dry.

Also a hair vitamin wouldnt hurt either... like nioxins or just vitamin b6 and b12 vitamins.

A good shampoo and conditioner is helpful. I use redken, bumble and bumble, halo and recently I just purchased bed heads voluminzing shampoo and conditioner (which i love).

Doing deep conditioning treatments weekly or bi weekly would be advantageous as well.

Also the whole trimming hair. I understand the logic behind it, but it truely did not work for me. For 10 months I got my hair trimmed every 6 - 8 weeks. Only a half of an inch cut. All my hair did is get shorter. I left it alone for 4 months and everyone was asking me if I had got extensions... I believe in trimming when you see the need (lots of split ends) ... but my hair motto these days is dont fix what isnt broken. :)

Everyone's hair grows an average of an half an inch a month. If you wait more than 4-5 weeks to trim the split ends off....eventually they break off. When that happens you break off more than the half inch you grew.

However, if you trim the very ends every 4 weeks to prevent the breakage from occuring in the first place...you will keep most of that half inch you grow every month. Combine that with a salon shampoo and conditioner....and you can get 6 or more inches of healthy hair every year.

The biggest trick is finding that special hairdresser than will only trim the very tips. If you explain what you're doing...they should work with you of getting the length to where you want it. The other thing in growing your hair out is to always grow from style to style....not length to length. That way you're never going to be bored with your hair and be tempted to cut it off...;)

Always use professional products, they are formulated to not buildup on the hair as fast and to actually strengthen the hairshaft. There is no magic to getting long hair.
