well i know for cancer patients there is "locks 4 love" which is when someone donates at least 10 inches of hair 2 make a wig

and i think 4 cosmetics they also use donations as well as hair 4 ppl who have died (they sterilize it tho)

People sell their hair. I've donated hair to charity. That is a good cause, getting wigs made for folks who are getting chemotherapy or radiation and lose their hair from it.

MOST hair on the heads of people in developed countries is too damaged and/or chemically altered to be used in wigs, and most real hair for wigs comes from the "Third World".

Most of the hair used in the cosmetic / hair industry is from INDIA. Women there grow it quite long and since it is thick, strong and straight it can survive the dyeing and curling and whatever else is done to make it into extensions and weaves. As for whether it is sold by the women who's head it comes from or if it is from corpses I don't know but I wouldn't be surprised either way.

I have found that many people have sold their hair. There is however synthetic hair that looks and feels like human hair and you can not tell the difference at all !! I Sometimes I wonder if company's don't misrepresent the items that they have for sale.

I do know this for fact that there is a organization called

" Locks Of Love " and people will donate their hair for children who are suffering from Cancer so they can have hair and they make wigs out of them.

My Son had hair down to his waist and cut it off and donated it to a little girl that lost her hair due to chemotherapy. They was able to make her a beautiful blonde wig out of it and the little girl now has long hair.......That little girl is his sister.

I am not sure how much help I have been in answering your question, but maybe some food for thought for those who want to donate their long beautiful hair to " Love of Locks"
